Trim an activity
Your file never leaves your device — conversion happens here in your browser.
The most common reason to trim a GPS file isn't tidiness — it's privacy. If you record a run or ride starting and ending at your front door and then share that file on a public platform, anyone can trace the route back to figure out roughly where you live. This matters more than people expect, and it's a completely different concern from most file-fixing tasks: the file isn't broken, it just contains a stretch of data you'd rather not publish. The other common case is simpler: you started recording a couple of minutes before you actually set off, or forgot to stop the watch when you got back and it kept tracking you standing around, walking inside, or driving off. Either way, you want the file trimmed to the part that's actually the activity, without touching anything in the middle. FitFileHub's trim tool cuts points from the start and/or end of a route without altering anything between the two cut points. You can set the boundary by point index if you know roughly how many points to remove, or more usefully, click the point directly on a map showing your route — drag it to wherever you want the file to actually begin or end, such as the edge of your street rather than your driveway. Everything before the start cut and after the end cut is discarded; everything else, including timestamps, elevation, heart rate, and pace data for the kept portion, is left exactly as recorded. Because this runs entirely in your browser, the route data — including the home-address stretch you're trying to remove — never gets uploaded to a server to be trimmed, which is the whole point if privacy is why you're trimming in the first place. Free for files up to 25 MB, three at a time.
Questions
Can I trim just the start, or just the end, without touching the other side?
Yes — the start and end cuts are independent. You can trim only one side and leave the other exactly as recorded.
Does trimming change the timestamps or pace of the points I keep?
No. Points between your two cut boundaries are left completely unchanged, including their original timestamps, elevation, and any heart rate or cadence data.
How precisely can I choose the trim point?
You can set it by exact point index, or click directly on the map showing your route and drag to the point you want, which is usually more intuitive than counting points.
Will trimming the start of my route affect my total distance or duration when I upload it?
Yes, intentionally — removing points removes the distance and time associated with them, so your uploaded activity will reflect only the trimmed portion, same as if you'd started recording later.
